Croatia in Game of Thrones
If you didn’t know, now you know! Croatia’s own city of Dubrovnik is a prominent filming location for the popular period drama Game of Thrones.
You can see the city cast as the King’s Landing: royal capital of Westeros and the Seven Kingdoms. We are pretty confident that you won’t find any dragons here, but in addition to beautiful beaches, rich cultural architecture, and a bustling city that tourists love for its distinct Croatian flavour, Dubrovnik is home to the famous Church of St. Blaise.
From St. Blaise’s legacy originates the Roman Catholic ritual of the Blessing of the Throats. Stories vary from source to source, but legend tells St. Blaise healed a little boy who nearly passed away due to a fishbone in his throat. The boy found himself cured after being prayed upon with two candlesticks held in a cross formation over his throat.
St. Blaise is known as the patron saint of sufferers of throat disease and wool combers. If you are looking for a way to get rid of that persistent cough, maybe a vacation to Dubrovnik is in your near future!
You can prepare for your trip by attending a few of the Croatian language classes offered by the cultural society.
