Stew (Gulaš)

Ingredients

  • 1-2 lbs. beef (or other meat), chopped into bite size pieces – note: if using chicken, just cut up into chicken parts)

  • 1 small onion, diced

  • 3-5 garlic cloves, minced

  • 1 tomato, diced

  • ½ to 1 C. tomato sauce (per taste)

  • 1 Tbsp. parsley, chopped

  • 1 Tbsp. black pepper, ground

  • 2 tsp. red paprika, ground

  • 1 Tbsp. Vegeta

  • Salt, to taste (may not need any if using Vegeta)

  • 2 Bay leaves

  • Water

  • Olive oil

  • Basil, chopped, to taste

 Method

  1.  In a stock pot, place the olive oil and fry the onion until golden. Add garlic. Cook for 2 more minutes.

  2. Add beef and stir until cooked.

  3. Add tomato, parsley, black pepper, red paprika, vegeta, salt (if using), bay leaves and enough water to cover the meat. Cook for about 40 minutes (or until all ingredients are cooked through and meat has a nice colour). 

  4. Serve with mashed potatoes, pasta, rice, or polenta, and salad. 😊
